What is ASA?

ASA (Automatic Safety Alert) is an automatic safety warning system that digitally warns and informs the public in emergencies and crisis situations via certified DAB+ radios — even if other communication channels, such as the Internet or mobile networks, are disrupted locally.

Digital radios with ASA alert function

Automatic

ASA works automatically: receivers analyse references to emergency announcements even on other radio stations and while in standby mode, increasing the flexibility and reach of alerts.

Wake-up function

Devices such as the DIGITRADIO 1 A and DIGITRADIO 3 ASA can be activated by DAB+ radio signals. This feature is crucial for future generations of clock radios — for example, in situations such as the Ahr Valley disaster or a nighttime storm surge.

Location-specific

The DAB+ signal transmits alert areas with precise location data, ensuring that only people in affected regions receive the warning. The radios automatically detect whether an alert is relevant to you.

ASA alert messages: How to set up your new digital radio!

When you switch on your new ASA digital radio for the first time, you will be prompted to enter a location code. You can find the code for your region at www.asa.radio. Enter the code and press OK.

Alternatively, you can enter the code at any time via the menu. Press the MENU button on your device and navigate to the menu item ASA Alerts.

  1. Press OK.
  2. Select the menu item Location and confirm with OK.
  3. Now you can enter each of the twelve digits of your location code. Confirm each digit with OK before entering the next one.
  4. Once the final digit is correct, the message ASA Location OK will appear.

If you move your digital radio to a new location, you can enter a different location code at any time. When the old code is displayed, simply press the number buttons to start the input process again.

Look for the ASA logo!

The ASA trademark stands for certified technology. ASA and DAB+ are designed to save lives — which makes trust and recognition essential. The ASA logo on packaging and devices helps ensure this. All TechniSat digital radios with an integrated ASA warning system are fully certified and meet the official standards of Digitalradio Deutschland e.V. and WorldDAB.
