An internet radio is a radio device that streams stations via the internet. Unlike traditional FM or DAB+ radios, it does not receive signals through antennas. Instead, it uses an internet connection to access a wide variety of stations from all over the world. The abbreviation "IR" on our digital radios stands for “Internet Radio” and gives you access to a diverse range of station options.

DAB+ is received digitally via antenna using a special radio receiver and offers static-free radio without additional costs. Internet radio, by contrast, offers limitless station variety and receives web-based stations worldwide. To listen to internet radio, you need an internet-enabled device and a stable connection. Many internet stations offer not only live streaming but also time-shifted “radio on demand” options—so you can pause a broadcast or replay that summer hit. This is not possible with DAB+.

To connect your internet radio to Wi-Fi, use the built-in network assistant found in the device menu. It helps you easily set up your connection. A scan will detect your home network, and a connection is then established using your Wi-Fi password.

Almost all of our internet radios also receive traditional local stations via FM and digital stations via DAB+. So even if the internet connection is down, you can still access regional and national radio content. In addition, internet radios support a wide variety of playback options: With a CD player and USB input, you can enjoy your music collection offline. And via Bluetooth, you can stream music directly from your smartphone—completely independent of internet or radio reception.

The decision between DAB+ and internet radio depends mainly on how you prefer to receive your stations and the variety of content available. DAB+ receives stations over antenna. Thanks to digital technology, more programs are now available, including several national stations. Internet radio, on the other hand, accesses stations via the web—allowing you to tune into virtually any station worldwide. However, it requires a stable internet connection. In terms of sound quality, DAB+ often has the edge, as its audio signal is less compressed, resulting in better sound reproduction. DAB+ also works without the need for an internet connection. Ultimately, choosing between DAB+ and internet radio depends on your individual needs.

Unlike conventional radios, internet radios provide access to global stations, podcasts, and personalized music services. Many models support Bluetooth, so you can stream music from your smartphone or tablet. Other useful features include: Station favorites, Alarm clock and sleep timer, Podcast streaming, Music streaming from services like Spotify, CD playback for enjoying your entire collection and Wireless or USB smartphone charging via the radio itself.
